Our Story

G'day, I'm Lachlan, the founder and heart behind Currawong Homes.

My story starts as an apprentice carpenter in Melbourne, where I fell in love with the craft of building homes that truly fit people's lives. I thrived on extensions and renovations—especially the challenge of blending old character with new life, creating spaces that feel timeless yet fresh.

At 25, I married the love of my life, Gabrielle, and together we embarked on our best build yet: our own tiny home. With affordability front of mind, we designed and built "Currawong Cottage"—a compact, clever THOW named after the iconic Australian black bird known for its striking beauty and that haunting, piercing call that echoes through the bush.

We moved in days before our daughter was born—unfinished, no kitchen, just pure determination and family love. It wasn't glamorous, but it was ours, and it taught us firsthand what "home" really means: shelter, love, and making it work no matter what.

That tiny home gave us so much, but as our family grew, we outgrew it too. Rather than leave the dream behind, we decided to share it. That's why I started Currawong Homes—to build quality, custom homes at realistic prices, so more Australian families can have the bespoke, thoughtful spaces they deserve without breaking the bank.

When I'm not on site or sketching plans, you'll find me with Gabrielle and our kids, enjoying the bush lifestyle, or listening out for that familiar currawong call—still a reminder of where it all began.

Thanks for being here. Let's build something special together.
